ELECTRIC RADIO/CONTROLLED UNLIMITEDS

Minutes of February 9, 2003 Meeting

Jim Lilly opened the meeting, with 14 members in attendance. The minutes from the January 25th meeting were reviewed and discussed.

Roger announced that E-R/CU was now affiliated with R/CU. He presented the idea of running at one of the R/CU meets, possibly between their heats. Marysville was mentioned as one possible site. To run in an R/CU event requires APBA membership, available at $10 per event, or $45 for annual membership.

Jim mentioned the response from the letter to Classic Thunder was limited but cordial. Website transfer was still pending. Ray Finney will work with Jim to make this happen. Dave Sacry has notified the club that he will trade batteries for other boat-related equipment. The website will be e-rcu.org, and will be available as soon as the name can be approved, hopefully by February 12. One logo t-shirt will be included with registration, and shirts were distributed to members in attendance. Jim has prepared a 10-minute promotional video that can be used for attracting sponsorship. This video in both cassette and DVD format is available to club members.

Roger commented on the race schedules. Shady Lake is approved, but Puyallup may be in question due to construction-related concerns. No response has been received from Coulon. Monte will coordinate with Bellevue for Bellevue Pond.

Registration points were discussed. A boat already built will have priority for registration. If an E-R/CU member wants to build a boat known to be active in Classic Thunder, approval will have to be given by the CT member.

John Williams mentioned that Jimmy Mac's Restaurant may be interested in becoming a sponsor. It was determined that a sponsorship plan needs to be prepared, to assist members in securing contacts, trophies, and the like.

The nine-race schedule for 2003 was discussed. The idea of adding a straightaway run was discussed. It would be desirable to have this be a separate event held at a unique location.

The revised rules were reviewed. The discussion highlights are as follows:

How to handle the damaged boat repair requirements was discussed.

Add a section on Season and Driver points - if running more than one boat, driver is to designate which hull per race will accumulate points for Driver High Points, limited to one boat per race regardless of class, which will not be changed after the start of the first heat.

Striking a called dead boat disqualifies both the striking boat and the driver for the remainder of the race.

The definition of unsportsman-like conduct will be expanded per R/CU rulebook.

Batteries used are to be sub-c cells.

Roger moved that the rulebook be approved as modified, with Howard seconding. The motion passed.

New Business:

Race sites need to be solidified. Another notice for boat registration will be sent out.

Scheduling an exhibition at the Lake Sammamish Tastin' and Racin' event was discussed. The major problem is the condition of the water.

A stand for the club brochure should be set up in local hobby shops.

Ken Muscatel has donated the trophy that will be used for the Seafair Race.

Member comments and individual plans for the 2003 season were received.

The next meeting is scheduled for March 9, 2003 at 7:00 pm at the U-25 boat shop in Burien.

The meeting was closed by president Jim Lilly.
