Year: 1994 Owner: Nigel Steere Driver: Nigel Steere Model Builder: Nigel Steere Construction: Vacuum bag, epoxy resin, glass, carbon Year Built: 2006 Motor: Himax 3630-1500 brushless Radio: FM pistol, soon to be Spektrum possibly. Electronic Speed Control: Castle 80 Propeller: Octura x447 Paint Colors: Black, Red, Yellow Graphics: Screen printed by Grady Steere Notes about the model: It was a bit of an experiment in construction technique to see if I could vac bag over a positive "plug" rather than a negative "mold". Overall, I rate it as a success, despite lots of hiccups along the way. Complete with adjustable flaps behind the leading wing, flex shaft, adjustable strut and horizontal stabilizer (all hardware by Monte) there are more whistles and bells than a one-man-band convention. Debuting in only two races this year, 2nd place seemed to be the spot for the T-Plus in both the Gold Cup and the APBA Nationals held at the Cascade Cup in Woodland, Wash. Considering some handling and CG bugs needed to be worked out, I still consider her debut season a success. Notes about the real boat: Other than blowing over at least twice and ending up on the beach of Firebird Lake in Arizona after losing a skidfin, I dont think it ever did much for the history books on the Unlimited scene. It was progressive hull theory at the time attempting to create a more stable platform by utilizing ground effect lift on the two separate wing-like surfaces of the boat hull. Race results proved it was light in the straits and heavy in the turns. Hopefully my RC will do better. . Notes about 2007: Nigel made it to four races in 2007. earning 4,052 high points to finish 17th in the Red Dot Championship Series. Nigel also won a modern race for the first time in his career, taking the Diamond Cup at Pipe Lake.
