Notes about the model: Shanty I made it’s debut at the April 28, 2007 Silver Cup held on the Bellevue Pond. The U-29 placed fifth overall in it’s first race. Fast & lightweight it looks to only get better as time passes.

Notes about the real boat: Owner Wm. T. Waggoner repainted the successful hull for 1957 with the metallic gold, red & white paint scheme to match it’s sister ship, the U-12 Maverick. 1956 had been a banner year for the new hull, taking the National Championship with three race wins including the very first Seafair Trophy race & the Harmsworth, where she defeated Miss Supertest. But 1957 would not be a repeat of the previous season. The best finish Shanty I could muster was a second place in the Gold Cup, then its promising race career was cut short when it was destroyed in the President’s Cup on September 22, 1957.

Notes about 2007: Kirk had the boat finished and ready to run in time for the Silver Cup at Bellevue, and turned the helm over to Col. Nelson Holmberg, WSU, who put the boat in the final at its first race, finishing fifth. Another fifth place finish at the Bill Brow Memorial gave for thoughts of promising things. The Shanty did experience speed control problems, receiver problems and receiver battery issues at various times throughout the season, but managed to earn a 20th place finish in the Red Dot Championship Series, with 3,704 points.
