Not having raced befor, Doug stayed back in his first few races and improved and was more copetive as the season progressed. Doug and the Squire Shop had a great opening season with a win at the Apple Cup exhibition in Chelan. Doug also had a pair of third places at the Bernie Little memorial and the Cherokee Bay Fun Run. Notes about the real boat: The U-64 was a 1976 Les Staudacher creation, powered by a turbocharged Allison engine and raced as MISS VERNORS. The boat posted three second-place finishes in 1978 at Detroit, Madison, and San Diego. Notes about 2007: In 2007, Doug finished seventh in the Red Dot Championship Series, posting 8,374 points. Doug also posted his first career race win, taking the Leo Vanden Berg Challenge at Lake Pleasant in Bothell. |
