Notes about the real boat: In 1978, Circus Circus opened their resort/casino/hotel in Reno, modeled in terms of architecture and interior design, as well as amenities in the gaming and family entertainment areas, after the original in Las Vegas. The 1978 hydroplane became one of the key marketing tools for the new hotel and the existing Las Vegas resort. It was the first of many entries into unlimited hydroplane racing for Circus Circus. Steve Reynolds was the driver of the first and second boats.
Notes about 2008: Finished first in the 2008 Red Dot Championship Series, winning the Gold Cup and NAMBA World Championships in the same season. Mike also won four other races, including the Cascade Cup, Champion Spark Plug Regatta, Bernie Little Memorial, and the Stan Sayres Memorial, bringing his driver, and the boat's, total career wins to eight.
