Notes about the model: A brand new hull in 2007, Doug took delivery at the ERCU Spring Training Day at Cherokee Bay, Doug took the boat out and it showed a lot of speed right away. Unfortunately, on one of its first runs, the speed control burned, ending the testing of the brand new Miss Budweiser — a model of the boat Doug's dad drove. Doug bounced back quickly, though, and drove the boat in the first race of the 2007 season at Centralia.
About the real boat: With driver Bill Brow behind the wheel the boat was christened in Detroit in 1966 and sank at it’s debute due to a hole in the bottom. Repaired it came back to win the next race at the first Atomic Cup in Tri-Cities, Wash. The next race was the Seafair Regatta in Seattle, Wash. and she won all of her preliminary heats. In the final heat while holding a considerable lead she went into the north turn on the final lap and went into a big hole and rolled over. Again repaired she came back to win the next race in San Diego, Calif. winning all the preliminary heats and the final. Predicted to be the boat to beat in 1967, on the first lap of the first heat in the first race of the season driver Bill Brow was killed and the boat totally destroyed in a spectacular accident, but as predicted, in first place and the boat to beat.
Notes about 2007: Doug rebounded from the frustrating start at the test run at Cherokee Bay to have a fine season with the Miss Budweiser, finishing 11th in the Red Dot Championship Series with 5,926 points.
