Notes about the real boat: The Breathless II (getting her name sake from “Breathless Mahoney” of Dick Tracy lore) started her racing career in 1957 with Roger and Jay Murphy at the helm. She raced with mixed results through1960 with a fourth at the 1957 Gold Cup and a second in the 1958 President’s Cup. The Breathless II hull had no less than 23 other names applied to her including the ’63-’64 U-80 Blue Chip, ’67 U-11 Miss Wickman, ’74-’75 U-22 Sunny Jim until her last official racing guise as the ’83 U-86 Swannie’s Special. After her racing career, the hull re-surfaced and was restored in 1991 as Hawaii Kai III (aka “Quasi Kai”) with her call to movie fame as a participant in the movie “Madison.” Rumor has it that the hull is currently being restored back to her original configuration in the markings of the U-22 "2" Breathless II.
